Mine is IDE. Some says that using AHCI mode can give your HDD a boost of performance.

If your motherboard southbridge chipset supports AHCI/RAID functions, you can enable it thru bios (advance settings for drives). Usual configs in bios are auto, enhanced (ahci/raid), combined (pata/sata; ide/ahci-raid modes) or custom. Provided your southbridge supports ahci-raid functions with a sata hard drive & a sata optical drive, you can set it at enhanced (ahci mode). But if you have a pata-sata combo, you can set it as combined or let the bios config it as auto (usual settings will be tuned as ide mode for both hard drive & optical drive). For my g31 board, the setting is combined (ide mode; a have a pata optical drive; g31's don't support ahci/raid functions). HTH
