Need help for my motherboard MSI MS-7030(nforcer 3 chipset) driver for usb 2.0. When i install the driver form their website it just install usb 1.1 version(standard openHost controller interface 1.1). My os version is windows xp sp3. In bios there is only enable and disable choice but there no selection for version 1.1 and version 2.0. I also check in nvidia but there is no driver for usb.
Where can i download this usb 2.0 controller? Badly needed because when i use my globe tattooe as internet provider it was very slow in transfer.

Unfortunately, upgrading from USB 1.1 to 2.0 requires more than software; it actually requires new hardware.

The good news is that the hardware is typically inexpensive. In addition, depending on the 2.0 device, it's possible, though not guaranteed, that it'll work just fine with your 1.1 interface.

The biggest visible difference between USB 1.1 and 2.0 is that 2.0 is faster. The biggest invisible difference is that a USB 2.0 interface requires different hardware - hardware that is capable of the higher speeds that USB 2.0 supports.

So, to "upgrade" from 1.1 to 2.0 typically isn't a software upgrade at all; it's an addition of hardware. For desktop machines you can purchase a relatively inexpensive USB 2.0 interface that you add to your machine. For your laptop you'll probably purchase a PCMCIA card that adds a USB 2.0 interface.

What website is that? Kindly provide us here a link.

If the website said that it can support USB 2.0 then it means you just have to go to the BIOS and set it to 2.0 version. If not then you just have to buy a card. you don't need to replace your motherboard.

Your motherboard have 8 high speed USB2.0 ports and I believe those ports are built-in. So I think you don't need to buy a PCI USB card. The driver that you downloaded from the MSI website is exclusively only for Windows 98 and ME. Since Windows 98 and ME doesn't have driver for USB port. If your Operating System is Windows XP or above then you don't need a driver because it's already included there in the Windows CD. During the installation process of Windows XP the driver of your USB ports are already installed as well.

Now, to identify if the USB ports you got there are USB 2.0 follow these steps:
* Right-click My Computer
* Click on Properties
* Click on the Hardware tab
* Click on the Device Manager button
* Scroll down as needed until you see Universal Serial Bus Controllers
* Expand that by clicking on the boxed plus sign in front of Universal Serial Bus Controllers

Note the highlighted line: "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller". While the exact text may vary, the key is the word "Enhanced".

If Enhanced Host Controller and/or USB 2.0 Root Hub Device is listed, then your computer has USB 2.0 ports. If Universal Host Controller and/or Open Host Controller is listed, then your computer has USB 1.1 ports.

On most machines the presence of "Enhanced", even only once (which it typically is), means that all USB ports are USB 2.0 ports. Typically a machine will have only one type of port and this tells you which kind they all are.

Now, what makes you said that your USB ports are 1.x version only?

Ok, after reading the manual of your motherboard here's what I found. In the BIOS under the OnBoard Device there is an "OnChip USB". This allows you to Enable/Disable the Onboard USB Controller. Selecting [V1.1+V2.0] enables the system to support both USB 1.1 and 2.0 spec. It is said as well that your motherboard have 4 built-in USB ports in the rear panel and 4 USB 2.0 ports in the front panel.

So I guess I don't see any problem since your BIOS supports both USB 1 and 2 versions. Like what I have said earlier you don't need to buy any extra card just to have a USB 2 version because your motherboard already supports both versions.

So I think all I can say is you have to buy a PCI USB card if instance the USB ports in the front panel in your casing are also 1.1 version.
