hello all Smiley

first of all, sorry it took me awhile to be back in this very brilliant forum ... perhaps i will ask for understanding from our beloved Admin that its very seldom or rare of me to come and visit the site. as usual, just like the rest of us ... just be so busy and pre-occupied lately  Undecided

nevertheless, the specs of my unit is the following:

Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2

Intel P4 CPU 2.26GHz 2.27GHz, 992 MB of RAM

now, my problem was that my unit has missing "Start-button" ... empty Desktop ... & can't right-click within the Desktop  Sad

it all started when i received or accepted a link  that is down-loadable thru skype ... i was just caught by its promising notes which i accept that i really regret  Huh?

nevertheless, after the said incident ... i run lots of scan such as Antivir (avira), Norton, AVG, etc., and in fact, i even removed the hard-disk  and make it a "slave" in another computer just to be scan.  did i get result? yes! a lot ... and everytime i used different virus scan, it also shows different virus being captured.

after awhile of virus-scanning, i stop. i say, " ... hey! this is enough ... its already too much scanning ... ". and after i installed again the said hard-disk back to its unit, that it! its gone ... missing lots of stuff  Shocked

hope i can be assist on this big problem of mine though i still can used the said PC but its very tedious since i'm going to press the ctrl-alt-del keys so tha taskbar will popup then i can run the applications  Roll Eyes

please help  Embarrassed

IIRC the taskbar is part of Explorer, right? Could you try running explorer.exe from the task manager and see what happens?

hello trickpirata and to u, Justin  Smiley

is their such a way i can the Windows-folder without going to that step of putting the cd?  Shocked

i mean is their any ways like i just go thru the gpedit, msconfig, mmc, regedit, dxdiag or command prompt environment?? hope you'll allow me to say but i prepare and more comfortable in going in those ways that i mentioned  Lips Sealed

it may sound weird of me asking those stuff knowing i inquire and asked for help. but somehow, i'm a little bit pessimistic also since i'm not used in running Win XP installer most specially repairing stage. in fact, for me its easy to reformat or install than to repair since i guess it needs to be much more careful so the date will not be loss if ever its not backup well  Roll Eyes

well, i'm also trying to point my idea and i'm sure everybody will agree that its better to open-up what i want to happen than to go and regret later  Huh?

happy weekend to all  Cool

cheers!  Wink

Hello TDK, good morning. Smiley

Ok, lets try other options. Try to download this tool "Taskbar Repair Tool Plus!". Extract the file and run the program. In the Taskbar Problems, click the drop-down arrow and look for "Hide or Show the Start button". Then click "Show Start Button".

Hello TDK, good morning. Smiley

Ok, it's not only the Start menu is missing but also the Taskbar. Use the Taskbar Repair Tool Plus again and look for "Taskbar is missing".
